Adventures at the Breakfast Table

On the first night our kids slept at our house we wanted to do something to break the ice and make it all seem a little less daunting… And so the ‘Adventures at the Breakfast Table’ were born.

Each night we decorated the breakfast table with a scene made up of the kids various toys, along with some homemade props too. From Monkey sleighing the teddy dragon on the cardboard castle – to the disaster at the paper aeroplane airport.

We never planned it in advance and had no pre conceived idea of how long we would keep it going, but we had certainly built a rod for our own back as the kids first words each morning quickly became: “Can we go and see what’s on the table please…”

Publishing photos of each day’s Adventure via our personal social media accounts helped us to share the journey of our new lives as a family with our friends and family. Unlike most new parents who give birth to their own child and post photos of every step in their new born’s life – we couldn’t share happy family photos publicly.

It gave us something really creative and positive to focus on as parents each evening – even though some nights we just wanted to collapse on the sofa, knowing that the kids were enjoying the surprise each day was a real motivation, plus we were having fun creating the adventures too.

Have you thought of making a calendar or book of these? They’re such a whimsical breath of fresh air! Thank you for making my afternoon. 🙂
